Ukiyo-E (meaning “pictures of the floating world”) is a style of Japanese artwork from Japan’s Edo period. Japanese woodblock prints like Hokusai’s Great Wave often come to mind when someone hears ukiyo-e. In college, I learned this process of mokuhanga (wood printmaking). This form of printing creates such a beautiful texture and depth to each print. For me, the process is just as meaningful as the final result.
I loved living in Japan and having the chance to explore this part of my heritage. This series is a collection of icons, inventions, and memories experienced in this amazing country.
